The Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ali Bukar Dalori, has taken over as the Acting National Chairman of the party following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, stepped down from the position on Thursday, citing the need to attend to “urgent and important personal matters.” His resignation takes immediate effect.
This was disclosed in a statement by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. He explained that Ganduje’s resignation letter was addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
In the letter, Ganduje thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level.
Following the development, President Tinubu directed that Ali Bukar Dalori should assume office in acting capacity, pending the convening of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to formally ratify a substantive chairman.
Ganduje, who hails from the North-West, was appointed APC National Chairman in August 2023, following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central zone. His appointment had generated internal tensions within the party, with critics claiming it breached APC’s zoning principles.
The former governor served two terms in Kano State from 2015 to 2023. In January 2025, President Tinubu appointed him as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). He is also being considered for a non-career ambassadorial role.
