Court Sentences 30-Year Old Man To Jail In Ekiti

An Ekiti State high court sitting in Ado Ekiti, has sentenced a 30 year old shola Oguntuase to life imprisonment for raping a 14 year old girl.

Oguntuase was arraigned before Justice Adekunle Adeleye on one count charge of rape.

The charge reads, that you Shola Oguntuase, on 7th day of July, 2020 at Ire Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did rape a 14 year old girl (name withheld).

In her statement, the victim said, I am a Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 Student, I was sleeping in our room on that evening, I spread cover cloth on my body, suddenly, I saw oga Shola (brother Shola) removing the cover cloth on my body and lying on me, when I was struggling to stand up and shout, he covered my mouth and nose with the cloth and I could not breath well, I became weak when he started hitting me with blows on the head, he removed my pant and have sexual intercourse with me, thereafter, he used white handkerchief to rub my virginal and left. I was crying till my mother’s arrival and explained what happened to her, that was the first time he would have sexual intercourse with me, she concluded.

To proof his case, the prosecutor, Marcus Olowoyo Esq. called four witnesses, she tendered defendant’s statements, victim’s statement and medical report as exhibits.
The convict spoke in his own defense through his counsel Rotimi Adabembe and called no witness.

Delivering his judgment, justice Adekunle Adeleye said, from the entire circumstances, I have no doubt that the prosecution established beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant rape the prosecutrix (The victim).

The defendant is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment, the judge ruled.
