An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti has granted an order to remand Olasunkanmi Olowoyeye and Adejoke Adegbite at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ado Ekiti for conspiracy to murder and murder.
The charge reads that Olasunkanmi Olowoyeye (28) and Adejoke Adegbite (23) on 26th of June, 2023 at Ogotun Ekiti in Ilawe Ekiti Magisterial District, reasonably suspected to have committed offence of conspiracy to murder and murder of a 32 year old Matthew Akinsulie, contrary to Sections 244 and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
Their plea was not taken.
The father of the deceased in his statement to the Police said, I received a call from the deceased wife that my son was sick, on getting there, he complained of stomach ache, after treating him at the hospital he was not well, he was later taken to a traditionalist who diagnosed the sickness to be thunderbolt but was treated, on the third day, the wife called again to inform me that her husband has been slaughtered.
After the burial, I got to know, that the first defendant is the wife’s concubine who placed thunderbolt (Magun) on the wife, when he didn’t die, he was slaughtered to cover up the act, he concluded.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Sadiq Adeniyi said, the duplicate case file have been forwarded to office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, he prayed the court to grant the order to remand the defendants at Nigerian Correctional Service, Ado Ekiti pending their legal advice.
In his ruling, Magistrate Dolapo Kay-Williams ordered the two defendants to be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ado Ekiti pending issuance of Legal Advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The case has been adjourned till 7th August, 2023 for mention.
