Court Grants Bail To Alleged Fake Police In Ekiti

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has granted bail to a 24 year old Isiaka Yinusa, who pretended to be a member of the Nigeria Police Force.

The charge reads that the defendant on 10/09/23 around 11:35 a.m., at Ifaki Ekiti in Ido Ekiti Magisterial District did intent to be taken to be a member of the Nigerian Police Force, have in possession Police shoulder flap, also conduct himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace in a public place.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare said, the offences are punishable under Sections 90 (b) and 181 (1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The charge was read and interpreted to the defendant, he claimed to understand the charge but pleaded not guilty.

Aduni Olanipekun, counsel to the defendant prayed the court to admit his client to bail in liberal term, I am ready to provide a substantial surety for the defendant, he said.

Inspector Adejare did not oppose the bail application, he said, I will  assemble my witnesses on next adjournment.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of #50,000 in the like sum and must swear to affidavit of means.

The case has been adjourned to 3rd October, 2023 for hearing.
