Council Chair Constitutes Committee To Strengthen War Against Gender Based Violence in Ekiti … We Are To Complement First Lady’s Efforts — Chairperson

In a bid to further strengthen the war against Gender Based Violence in Gbonyin Local Council Development Area of Ekiti State, the Chairman, Hon. Oluwadamilare Ajayi has inaugurated the newly constituted Gender Based Violence Committee.

While inugurating the committee, the Council boss said the committee was constituted in the council area to complement what the wife of the State Governor, Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Fayemi is doing to eradicate violence of any form against women and girl-child.

He charged members of the committee to be dedicated and committed in making sure that Gbonyin Local Council Development Area is Gender Based Violence free and that they should always report or expose anybody involving in the act to the appropriate authority.

In her address, the Chairperson of the committee who is also the wife of the Chairman of Gbonyin LCDA, Mrs Temitayo Ajayi lauded the effort of the wife of Ekiti State Governor Erelu Bisi Fayemi, who she described as a major crusader in waging war against Gender Based Violence in Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

According to her, Gender Based Violence is a violence directed against a person because of that person’s gender or violence that affects person’s disproportionately. She noted that physical, sexual, psychological and economic Violence are major forms of violence against women and girl-child.

Mrs Ajayi explained that it is the duty of all members of the newly constituted Gender Based Violence Committee in Gbonyin LCDA to be the eyes and ears of the wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi by reporting any body involving in any form of violence against women and girl-child to her office.

Thereafter, stakeholders meeting was held with sensitisation rally led by the Chairperson, Mrs Temitayo Ajayi to Aisegba, Iluomoba and Ijan Ekiti.

Members of the committee were drawn from major stakeholders in the society who have something to do with women such as Iyalaje/Iyaloja, Artisans, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Area Education Officer, NURTW, RTEAN, AEO, ANCOPSS and FIDA.
