The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that corps members will soon begin receiving an increased monthly allowance of N77,000.
Ahmed made this disclosure in Abuja during the commissioning of a staff bus donated by Capital Express Insurance Company. He stated that all arrangements for the increment have been finalized, marking a significant step toward improving the welfare of corps members.
The DG emphasized his commitment to the welfare and security of corps members, assuring them that by 2025, they will enjoy all the benefits they deserve.
Currently, corps members receive a monthly allowance of N33,000, even though President Bola Tinubu signed the new national minimum wage bill into law in July 2024.
Support for NYSC Staff
The newly commissioned staff bus, Ahmed noted, is part of efforts to alleviate transportation challenges faced by NYSC staff. He acknowledged the difficulties both staff and corps members experience in commuting to and from their offices and pledged continued efforts to improve their working conditions.
The announcement has been welcomed by corps members, who view the increment as a long-overdue reflection of the economic realities in the country.
