Commissioner, Tosin Aluko Promises Healthy Environment In Ekiti     … As Water Producers Association Donates Waste Bins To State Govt

Donating the items to the state government through the Ministry of Environment, Chairman of ATWAP, Ekiti State Chapter, Ademola Oyaleke said the donation is part of their social responsibility to keeping the state clean.

Oyaleke equally said that the association has commenced engaging its members through sensitization workshops on the need to produce hygienic water for people of the state.

He went further to reveal that ATWAP has set aside first Thursday of every month for the cleaning of their factories and other strategic places in the state to keep the state clean, adding that no member is permitted to distribute water same day. 

Receiving the items on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Environment, Erelu Tosin Ajisafe-Aluko,  commended the association for the laudable project saying that their support will go a long way in safeguarding the lives of Ekiti people.

The Commissioner for Environment called on the association to always adhere to the necessary guidelines in their various factories while calling on residents of the state to join hands in ensuring a healthy and enviable environment.

In her remark, the Commissioner noted that the association is one of the Ministry’s regulated bodies that serve the public and that it is the duty of the ministry to regulate their activities to ensure that both sachet and bottled waters are produced in a clean and hygienic environment to prevent infectious/contagious diseases.

Aluko assured the association that the ministry will utilise the waste bins effectively adding that the state government has taken a bold step towards a cleaner environment through the ban of styrofoam for a greener and vibrant state.

Chief Tosin Aluko therefore said styrofoam known as takeaway would soon be banned in the state to enhance greener and clean environment.

In their goodwill messages, representatives of NAFDAC and that of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON charged producers of  sachet water in Ekiti state to imbibe the culture of quality in production of the water for the benefit of consumers.

The National President of ATWAP, Clementina Ativie, represented by the South-West/Kwara Zonal Chairman, Ademola Adeyeye said the programme is the third series in the zone.

He commended the efforts of the state government in ensuring a cleaner environment while calling on the state government to look into the issue of recycling that will generate revenue for the state.
