A call has gone to public officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency in the discharge of their duties.
The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs (MLGA) Hon. Folorunso Olabode gave this call while declaring open a day sensitisation workshop organised for local government political office holders and Directors of Administration on Code of Conduct in Ado Ekiti.
Hon.Olabode who lauded Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the approval of the workshop and the provision of logistic support for its success, charged participants to reflect the values of honesty, accountability and ethical conduct after the training.
He emphasised that code of conduct serves as a guiding light and the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest, practising fairness and impartiality, and the protection of resources entrusted.
The Commissioner explained that transparency in asset declaration also safeguards against corruption signifying that, none is above the law.
Hon.Olabode charged the Directors of Administration to go back and train others in their various Councils noting that documentation is powerful and could be taken against someone in the future.
The lead Facilitator and Ag State Director at the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Solomon Omobolade in his lecture, explained all what is expected of a public servant, the ethics and behaviours of an employee.
He noted that ensuring compliance and enforcing the needful in the discharge of duties are some of the guidelines of the Code of Conduct.
Mr Omobolade did justice to many topics which included reasons, rules, vision and mission statement of code of conduct, abuse of power, declaration of assets, how to properly fill the form, the offences and conflict of interest, penalities of not declaring asset and host of others.
In his response, the Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Oluwasegun Ojo lauded the State government. He promised on behalf of other Council Chairmen to key into all the lessons learnt, put them into practice in the day to day activities and also abide by the rules to justify the confidence reposed in them.
