Commissioner Calls For Judicious Distribution Of Palliatives In Ekiti

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Palliatives Distribution Committee, said that 1800 bags of rice have been effectively shared among the vulnerables in the State.

The Commissioner gave the hint while addressing journalists at the venue of the distribution in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital.

The Chairman, Palliatives Distribution Committee, Mr Boluwade, said the Federal Government donated the bags of rice to the people of Ekiti State as a result of the fuel subsidy removal as announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu  on May 29th. 

According to him, “the Federal Government released the rice palliative to Ekiti State Government on the 10th of August, 2023 and today, we are distributing to those who need them”. 

The Committee Chairman gave the categories of the beneficiaries to include; the 

vulnerables, the Aged, the Pensioners, the Artisans, Associations, Road Transport Unions comprising Okada and Maruwa Riders, Market Women, People With Disabilities, among others.

He gave the mode of distribution as follows: 200 bags for the Artisans and Private sectors, 50 bags for road transport workers, Okada riders got 40 bags,Tricycle riders 50 bags, people with disabilities 100 bags, pensioners 100 bags while some other sectors of the State equally got some.

The Commissioner therefore enjoined those expected to effect the distribution to ensure that it’s judiciously distributed as planned. 

Speaking on how it would be  distributed across the wards in the State,, he said, “the ward issue was factored because it is the last place in the chain of governance saying each ward across the State would get ten bags. He described the ward as a place where every locality is represented including the traditional rulers who are not politicians. 

Honourable Boluwade said the distribution would be monitored by the NGOs and Religious Leaders among others. 

The beneficiaries through their representatives all Commended both the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of the State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the gesture.

Dignatories at the flagging off of the distribution included,  Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Habibat Adubiaro,Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatubosun, Special Adviser on Social Investment Programmes, Hon Mrs. Yemisi Ayokunle, Special Adviser on Rural Mobilisation, Mrs. Oluremi Ajayi Babington as well SSA to the Governor on Community Communication, Mrs Mary Oso-Omotosho.
