COALITION: I Want To Be President, Not Atiku’s VP – Peter Obi

Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his intention to run for the office of the President in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a political programme on Sunday, Obi ruled out any possibility of serving as a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any other presidential hopeful.

“I am going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for the position,” he said.

Obi also dismissed rumours that discussions were ongoing regarding his role as a vice-presidential candidate in the next election cycle.

“There has been no conversation with anyone about me becoming a running mate. Nobody has discussed such with me. People just speculate unnecessarily,” he said.

The Labour Party stalwart emphasised that he remains committed to the party and its ideals, even as he acknowledged his involvement in a broader coalition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other opposition elements.

“I am part of a coalition working to present a candidate with the capacity and compassion to rescue Nigeria,” Obi added.

The former governor said the alliance is focused on producing a credible alternative to the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls.
