Tragedy struck in the Tumfure community of Gombe State on Christmas Day when a commercial bus lost control and rammed into a Christmas procession, leaving 22 people injured.
The celebrants were heading to the Government House and the Gombe Emir’s Palace for a customary homage when the incident occurred.
Police spokesperson Buhari Abdullahi confirmed that the injured victims were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital and Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
The Gombe State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident, with the Commissioner of Police directing the Motor Traffic Department to conduct a thorough probe. Security personnel cordoned off the area, urging residents to remain calm.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed his condolences to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the victims, pledging to cover all medical expenses.
