The Director General, Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship, Ekiti State, Mrs. Olawumi Famuyiwa has advised students to uphold the core values of the state, which include dignity, honesty, respect for elders and hard work.
Mrs Famuyiwa gave the advice while addressing students of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Comprehensive High School, Ado-Ekiti.
The programme which was organized in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists was aimed at instilling discipline in the youths so as to build a better future for the state.
Mrs Famuyiwa emphasized the importance of environmental cleanliness and responsible behaviour among secondary school students.
“We have begun a series of orientations for secondary school students on the need to be responsible in society, maintain environmental cleanliness, and take the message to their parents. We will repeat this exercise in this school and other schools,” she said.
Regarding the upcoming Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination in the state, Mrs. Olawunmi appealed to parents to avail their children for the free vaccination.
“It is an immunization against cervical cancer, and is safe with no side effects,” she added.
In an interview, the Principal of CAC Comprehensive High School, thanked the Bureau and NUJ for the orientation of the students.
The chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Ekiti State, Kayode Babatuyi urged the students to be law abiding and aspire for greatness.
