BOUESTI Management Reaffirms Commitment to Students’ Welfare …VC urges students to embrace dialogue in resolving disputes

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Omojola, gave the assurance during an open interactive meeting with students of the University.

The meeting, tagged a “Family Meeting,” held at the University Sports Pavilion, provided Professor Omojola, who assumed office in January as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution, the opportunity to obtain first-hand information about the challenges confronting students on campus.

Speaking during the meeting, the President of the Students’ Union Government, Comrade Sanya Ifeoluwa, highlighted some of the major challenges facing students. These include epileptic power supply, poor mobile network connectivity, inadequate classroom and hostel accommodation, as well as alleged harassment of students by security personnel.

While appealing to the University Management to address the issues raised, Comrade Ifeoluwa assured that students would continue to maintain peace and harmony in order to sustain the institution’s uninterrupted academic calendar.

In his response, Professor Omojola commended the students for their maturity, patience and cooperation despite the challenges confronting them. He assured them that the University Management would take proactive steps to address the issues raised.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the essence of the meeting was to engage students in constructive dialogue and strengthen mutual understanding between the management and the student body.

“As a father, I convened this family meeting to hear directly from you and better understand the challenges you face, so that we can work together to find lasting solutions,” he said.

Professor Omojola added that the concerns raised by the students had been duly noted and assured that the University Management would take decisive steps to address them and make students’ stay on campus more conducive and rewarding.

Earlier in his remarks, the Dean of  Student Affairs, Professor Oladayo Daramola, described the meeting as unprecedented in the history of the University.

He noted that it provided a rare platform for open engagement between the management and students on issues affecting campus life.

Professor Daramola expressed optimism that the dialogue would further strengthen mutual trust and that both parties would uphold the resolutions reached during the meeting.
