A bomb explosion along the Gusau-Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State has resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
The incident, reportedly caused by an explosive device planted by bandits, targeted travelers and residents on the busy route.
Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert, disclosed the development on Wednesday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
He described the attack as the second bomb explosion on the road, signaling a troubling evolution in the tactics used by bandits in the state.
Makama noted that the use of explosives marks a departure from the bandits’ traditional activities, such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed attacks, further escalating insecurity in the region.
“This incident highlights a dangerous shift in strategy. The introduction of explosives adds a new dimension of insecurity to Zamfara, traditionally plagued by other forms of banditry,” Makama stated.
Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of casualties, while efforts to secure the affected area and investigate the incident are ongoing.
