Four members of the Labour Party (LP) in the House of Representatives have officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers who defected are Chinedu Okere (representing Owerri Municipal/Owerri North/Owerri West Constituency), Mathew Donatus (Kaura Federal Constituency, Kaduna State), Akiba Bassey (Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Constituency, Cross River State), and Esosa Iyawe (Oredo Federal Constituency, Edo State).
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the defections during Thursday’s plenary session.
Explaining his decision, Mathew Donatus stated that his move was influenced by the support of his constituents. He said, “You cannot solely rely on the decision of the people at the constituency level because they have varying levels of understanding.
“I am taking this step based on my convictions. Whether you agree or not, there are people in the constituency who believe it is the right decision, while others remain skeptical, waiting for the outcome,” he added.
