Bandits Abduct Two Councillors, Imam, Seize Policemen’s Phones

The victims were identified as councillors representing Gidan Goga and Tsibiri wards in Maradun Local Government Area, along with a local Islamic cleric.

The incident occurred around 8:05 p.m., shortly after the victims had performed Maghrib prayers, near a police outpost in the community.

“They Collected Phones from Policemen”

Chairman of Maradun LGA, Hon. Sanusi Gama Giwa, confirmed the abduction, saying the councillors were seized while relaxing at a tea spot.

“It happened right in front of a police station where officers are usually present. The bandits even collected phones from the police officers without resistance. They didn’t harm anyone,” Giwa said.

According to him, the attackers were initially searching for a man from Kaura village.
“Upon failing to capture their target, they stumbled upon the group of men and abducted six. After moving a short distance, they released three and continued with the councillors and the Imam,” he explained.

Police Response

Spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the attack in a phone interview.

“Operatives have been deployed to the area and a rescue operation is underway. We are doing everything within our power to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.

DSP Abubakar also urged residents to provide timely and useful information that could help security agencies track down criminal elements.
