A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has lauded the agriculture initiatives of Governor Biodun Oyebanji that brought a drastic slump to food Inflation in the state.
Essentially, Bamisile, who represents Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, said he was enthralled with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) August 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, which signposted a slump in the food prices, contrary to skyrocketing prices experienced in the past.
The commendation was contained in a statement signed by his Media Office in Abuja and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti.
Going by the NBS monthly release for August, 2025, it was revealed that prices of food items had crashed in Ekiti considerably, which will significantly translate to better standards of living for the masses.
Bamisile in his commendation, said the gradual reduction in the food prices in Ekiti State buttressed the widespread impression that Governor Oyebanji is offering good governance to the people of the state.
The federal lawmaker opined that the Hallmark of leadership is anchored predominantly on provision of better welfare by ways of security of lives and property and improved standards of living, saying the governor has not failed in these two thematic areas.
He appealed to middlemen and those specializing in the sale of food items to complement government’s efforts and refrain from sabotaging the mileage recorded by the state in the area of reduced food Inflation.
“This is one information that really gladdens my heart. Ekiti State remains one of the most secured states in Nigeria today.
“Cases of banditry, kidnapping and robbery have reduced significantly and this was due to the proactive efforts of the state government in collaboration with the federal agencies.
“In 2024, food Inflation bites harder across the country and this nearly gave the federal government a lot of sleepless nights.
“But with good policies in agriculture like the cluster farming that attracted youths into commercial farming and partnership between the state and food production firms, the food inflation has reduced drastically in Ekiti State.
“According to the report, food index dropped by 6.8 percent month-on-month, while annual food inflation at 16.8 percent, is currently below the national average.
“These are signs that things are looking up and making Governor Oyebanji’s second term ambition looks more realisable and worthwhile”.
To prevent middlemen from thwarting the government’s achievement and set target, Bamisile said those dealing in the sale of food items should be monitored properly to checkmate their excesses, so that they won’t compromise the system.
