A ranking member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has donated modern building facilities to schools in Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State, seeking concerted efforts to boost access to education and curb illiteracy, inequality and poverty among the citizens.
The buildings, comprising two blocks of six and three classrooms respectively, were donated to Saint Luke’s Primary School, Ijan Ekiti, and CAC primary School, Imesi Ekiti, with the latter named after the late All Progressives Congress State Chairman, Chief Paul Omotoso, to immortalise the politician.
Speaking at the commissioning of the school facilities on Wednesday, Bamisile described the gesture as part of the efforts to boost access to education and reduce the scourge of poverty and inequality being caused by illiteracy among his constituents.
The representative of Ekiti South Federal Constituency 2 in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, posited that the facilities will help in increasing infrastructures in schools for conducive teaching and learning to bolster academic standards in Ekiti State.
The Chairman, House Committee on Delegated Legislation, saluted Governor Biodun Oyebanji for constructing a Smart School in Ijan Ekiti to enhance the mental capabilities of brilliant students.
The former Ekiti Assembly Speaker, stated that the buildings he constructed will also help in completing the efforts of the current administration in actualising the education for all children policy as part of the Human Capital Development focus of government.
Bamisile urged the two communities, the benefitting teachers and students to make good use of the facilities to actualise the dream of making children of school age in Ekiti have unrestricted access to education.
He said: “These are state -of -the earth facilities that can offer the best comfort for both students and teachers for improved standards of education. No student or teacher can deliver optimally in terms of academic performance while learning under a harsh condition.
“I want to assure you that I will continue to give my best to serve this federal constituency. I will prioritise projects that will add value to the lives of the people, particularly their education that remains the best weapon against illiteracy, inequality and poverty.
“Go and check my records, as I am building schools, I am also investing in the health, infrastructures and human capital development sectors through road construction, provision of equipment in our health facilities and empowerments for my constituents.
“I specifically commend Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his focus on education of our children. Within two years, he had constructed Smart School in Ijan Ekiti and a model school at Ikere Ekiti to boost access to education. The primary and secondary schools are now receiving monthly running grants.
“I appeal to you, make good use of these facilities to achieve the vision of ensuring that our children enjoy qualitative education that can stand them out wherever they go”.
He said he decided to name the school built at the CAC Primary School, Imesi Ekiti after the late Paul Omotoso to immortalise the politician, so that his legacies will continue to linger in the hearts of his kinsmen.
Commissioning the block of six classrooms project built at Saint Luke’s Primary School, Ijan Ekiti, the Onijan of Ijan Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Aladesuyi, commended Hon Bamisile for the landmark initiative.
Oba Aladesuyi promised that the community will ensure that the facility is maintained to be able to meet the focus for which it was donated, urging all parents to release their children for schooling to stamp out the incidence of out of school children from Ekiti.
“We are full of praises for Hon Bamisile for this donation. It shows he has good feelings for his constituents. I am sure that this facility will improve learning and teaching in this school and our children will be better in terms of mental development”, the monarch said.
Also applauding the lawmaker for the initiative, the Onimesi of Imesi Ekiti, Oba Olatunji Olatunde, who commissioned the facility at Imesi Ekiti, appealed to parents to prioritise the education of their children.
Oba Olatunde said the efforts of the State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji and the ones being demonstrated by Hon Femi Bamisile can only bear fruits if parents can play significant roles to complement their actions.
The monarch praised the lawmaker for prioritising the education of children and promised that his people will always support his vision to make the federal constituency a beacon of development.
