…Teachers’ Union Pledges Deeper Collaboration with Oil Workers Under Agoro

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, following its national elections held on Saturday, August 23, 2026.
In a congratulatory message signed by its National President, Comrade Sola Adigun, ASUSS said the emergence of the new executives reflects the confidence of PENGASSAN members in their capacity to advance workers’ welfare and protect the oil and gas industry.
ASUSS extended special congratulations to Comrade Bosun Olabiyi Agoro on his election as the new President of PENGASSAN.
“Your emergence at this critical time in the trade union movement is a testament to the confidence that comrades across the oil and gas sector have reposed in you,” Adigun stated.
“We have no doubt that your wealth of experience, commitment to workers’ welfare and progressive leadership will further strengthen PENGASSAN.”
The union also congratulated other elected officers, including: Comrade Dominic Abang – Industrial Relations Officer, IRO, Comrade Amaoge Chukwudi – National Treasurer, Comrade Engr. Ada Dr. Mbanaso – Re-elected Chairperson, PENGASSAN Women’s Commission
“Your individual victories are victories for the entire labour movement. We celebrate your dedication and commitment to service,” the statement added.
ASUSS paid tribute to the outgoing PENGASSAN President, Comrade Festus Osifo, for what it described as an “impactful two-term tenure” marked by courage and commitment.
“Comrade Osifo led with courage, clarity and uncommon commitment to the protection of members’ jobs, welfare and the stability of the oil and gas industry,” Adigun said.
The union noted that Osifo’s legacy of “institutionalising a rancour-free leadership transition will remain a reference point in trade union administration in Nigeria.”
ASUSS wished Osifo success in his continued role as President of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, and in the broader labour movement.
The secondary school teachers’ union said it looks forward to deepening solidarity with PENGASSAN under Comrade Agoro’s leadership.
“ASUSS looks forward to deepening the bond of solidarity and collaboration with PENGASSAN under the leadership of Comrade Agoro for the advancement of workers’ rights, quality education and national development,” the statement read.
ASUSS also congratulated the entire PENGASSAN National Central Working Committee and assured the new leadership of its support.
The message was concluded with the labour slogan: “Solidarity Forever!”
