Assembly Poll Shows APC Has No Viable Opposition In Ekiti — Deputy Gov

. By Ralph Oluwatoyin

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs Monisade Afuye, has insisted that the overwhelming victory recorded by the  All Progressives Congress in the Saturday’s House of Assembly election, confirmed that  the ruling party has no viable opposition in the state.

Mrs Afuye added that the clearing of 24 out of the 26 assembly seats , was a loud and clear validation of the Governor Biodun Oyebanji-led government by Ekiti people.

Afuye, in a statement in Ikere Ekiti Ekiti by her Media Aide, Victor Ogunje, made the comment during a political rally held across the two constituencies in the town to celebrate the victories of the APC candidates.

In the contest, Hon Babatunbde Lawrence Oke and Hon Tunde Idowu, were elected in Ikere constituencies 1 and 2 respectively.

The early morning procession, which was kick-started with  long convoy of vehicles, numbering over 50, on Sunday, moved round the popular areas like Moshood road, Odo Oja, Oke Osun, Ajolagun, Oke Ikere, among others, to appreciate the voters for electing the candidates .

The highly ecstatic deputy governor, appealed to the lawmaker- elects not to disappoint the populace that threw them up through the ballot.

She said the coming assembly members must come with a mindset and strong conviction to partner Governor Oyebanji to strengthen the economy and deliver democracy dividends to the people.

Mrs Afuye, said; “This is a sweet victory for all of us in Ikere Ekiti and the progressive fold across Ekiti, and even Nigeria, with the emergence of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the incoming leader of the nation.

“Our people didn’t just do us proud in the assembly poll, they did same in the last presidential and National Assembly election , where we won the presidential, three Senate and six House of Representatives seats.

“There is nothing wrong in APC winning all elections in Ekiti. Governor Oyebanji is laying a solid foundation for the actualisation of this by his performance, receptiveness to the opposition and humility.

“Don’t discriminate. Let us begin to curry the favour of those in the opposition. Let us open our doors to them , so that they can join us.

“To the winners, make sure you give our people the best representation they deserved. Don’t put our party to shame. Be ready to accommodate everybody and do the little you can to better their lives”.

Speaking on behalf of the winners, the lawmaker representing Ikere constituency 2, who got reelected, Hon. Tunde Idowu, pledged his loyalty to the community, saying he would do all within his capacity to deliver and meet the expectations of the people.

Idowu added that he had garnered a lot of experiences in legislation and politics in the last four years and that this will guide him to having a better representation and make a positive  impact in the assembly and his constituency.
