The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruled out any possibility of rescheduling its postponed National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings until 2025.
The meetings, initially set for September 11 and 12, 2024, in Abuja, were indefinitely suspended, with no specific reason provided for the postponement. Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, had assured that new dates would be announced at a later time.
These meetings were expected to be the first major gathering of party leaders and stakeholders since Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje assumed the position of National Chairman of the APC. However, the indefinite delay has left stakeholders awaiting further communication.
Speaking on the matter, the party’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, confirmed that there are no immediate plans to reconvene this year. “I have no idea when the meetings will be rescheduled. The announcement made was that they have been postponed indefinitely. Nothing will happen this year, that is certain,” he said.
Similarly, the APC National Deputy Organising Secretary, Nze Duru, stated that consultations are still ongoing and a new date will be set after discussions are concluded. “Discussions are ongoing, and when a decision is made, the party will announce a date for the NEC meeting. This will certainly not happen in 2024,” Duru explained.
The postponement of these crucial meetings has raised questions among party members, as they were anticipated to address key issues within the APC and set strategic plans ahead of the 2025 political calendar.
