The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially confirmed the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as its National Chairman.
Ganduje, who served two terms as Governor of Kano State, stepped down from his position on Friday, citing the need to attend to his health and other pressing personal matters.
In a statement issued, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced that the resignation takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, Ganduje’s resignation letter was submitted to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
Following the development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, to assume the role of Acting National Chairman pending the meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), scheduled for December. The NEC is expected to formally ratify a substantive replacement.
Morka commended Ganduje for what he described as his “invaluable contributions and distinguished record of service” to the party.
“Throughout his tenure, he was committed to promoting unity, democratic ideals, and strengthening the APC’s position as a dominant political force in Nigeria,” the statement read.
He also recalled that Ganduje enjoyed the confidence of the party’s NEC and National Caucus, particularly during their meetings in February 2025.
“He leaves with pride in the party’s collective achievements under his leadership, including high-profile defections from opposition parties and favourable court rulings affirming the legitimacy of the APC’s leadership structure,” Morka added.
Ganduje assumed the position of National Chairman in August 2023 following the resignation of his predecessor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Morka assured party members and Nigerians that the APC remains committed to delivering on the promises of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
