The primary election, which took place on Saturday at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, was held under tight security and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Chairman of the APGA Governorship Primary Election Committee, Chief Uchenna Nwegbo, declared Soludo winner, noting that the process was in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
According to him, 3,260 delegates were expected, while 3,175 were accredited. A total of 3,172 votes were cast, out of which 3,168 were in favour of the governor. Four votes were declared invalid, and there was no dissenting vote.
“With the powers conferred on me as the Chief Returning Officer and in line with INEC guidelines, I hereby declare Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as the APGA candidate for the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State,” Nwegbo announced.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Soludo thanked the party leadership and delegates for their support, describing the exercise as peaceful and well-organised.
He expressed appreciation for the overwhelming endorsement and assured party members and Anambra citizens of his continued commitment to development.
“I’m humbled by this show of unity. We’ll not relent. Our administration will keep pushing for more progress in infrastructure, human capital development, economic transformation, and security. The journey continues,” he said.
Meanwhile, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor has retained Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim as his running mate for the upcoming election.
