Alleged Beating, Detaining of Suspect’s Brother,  Untrue – Police

On the Facebook page, Mary alleged that the Police at Odo Ado Divisional Headquarters severely beat his brother, one Agbi Omolayo, who came to the Station to seek the bail of their younger brother, one Agbi Henry, who allegedly bought a stolen phone from one Durodola Yinka at Fayose Market, Ado-Ekiti.

Adding that her brother, Agbi Omolayo, was equally pushed and forced into the cell by the Police. Claiming that the Force had treated her family badly in the past years and is still doing the same.

Considering the weight of this unverified, untrue and unfortunate outburst born out of an existing, carried over and nurtured hatred for the Police,  the Command wishes to keep the record straight:

On 17/07/2025, one Durojaye Nike of Odo-Ado reported at the Station that while she was asleep, some unknown thieves burgled her apartment and carted away the following items: one Tecno Pop9 phone valued ₦130,000, one infinix Smart6 phone valued ₦150,000, one Power Bank valued ₦20,000, a box which contains her jewelries, cream, soap and makeup items valued ₦165,000 and a cash sum of ₦366,000.

Upon the receipt of the complaint, the operatives of Odo Ado division commenced investigation and arrested one Agbi Henry on 25/08/2025 who was in possession of one of the stolen phones- Tecno Pop9. During interrogation, Agbi Henry stated that he bought the phone at the rate of ₦98,000 from one Durodola Yinka at Fayose Market, Ado-Ekiti,  who was subsequently arrested on 26/08/2025 and brought to the Station.

After taking their statements, both suspects were granted bail on 27/08/2025 and asked to return the next day for further investigation, as Durodola Yinka claimed he bought the phone at the rate of ₦65,000 from another suspect.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP JOSEPH ERIBO, after noticing this baseless and unwarranted allegation against the Police by Agbi Mary Omoaho on her Facebook page, decided to invite all the parties involved in the case to his office.

During the meeting, none of the suspects or suretees accused the Police of any form of human rights violations. Agbi Mary Omoaho’s brother, Agbi Omolayo, stated before the Commissioner of Police that the Police never detained or assaulted him, as against her allegation.

While the case is still under investigation and the suspects now in custody waiting to be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded, the Command implores members of the public to disregard the allegations as they have all been discovered to be baseless.

The Command hereby invites Agbi Mary Omoaho to come forward to defend her claims within the next 72hrs or made to face the full wrath of the law.

The Force takes exception to such allegations and must ensure they are thoroughly investigated.
