Alake Maintains Determination To Improve On Services       … As NBTE Revalidates 44 Accredited Programmes For Fed Poly, Ado-Ekiti

The NBTE’s approval for the 44 programmes, comprising 17 ND and 26 HND as well as the Institutional Administration accreditation was the outcome of a recent Accreditation Visitation Exercise carried out to the Polytechnic. 

A total of 39 out of the 44 revalidated programmes received full accreditation for five years in 17 ND and 21 HND programmes including the Institutional Administration accreditation, while five other HND programmes got the nod of the Board for their interim accreditation for one year and would be due for revisitation after the current 2023/2024 academic session.

The National Board for Technical Education had in a letter dated 29th March, 2024 by its Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Bugaje, conveyed the grant of full accreditation to 39 out of the 44 programmes recently visited by the Board.

The letter addressed to the Rector, with reference number TEB/PRO.FP.01/VOL.111/201 reads: “with reference to the Accreditation exercise carried out by the Board at your Institution from 10th to 13th March, 2024,  I am directed to inform you that the Board has approved the accreditation of the following programmes offered by your Institution for a period of five (5) years with effect from 2023/2024 academic session.

The second letter also signed for the Executive Secretary by the NBTE’s Director of Polytechnic Programmes, ARC. Ngbede Ogoh and similarly dated and addressed  for the grant of interim accreditation to five HND Programmes as follows: “I am directed to inform you that the Board has granted Interim Accreditation for a period of one year to the Institution with effect from 2023/2024 Academic Session”. 

The approved 39 ND/HND programmes cut across the various departments in the current five faculties in the Polytechnic, which are the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology; School of Business Studies, School of Engineering, School of Environmental Studies and the School of Science and Computer Studies. 

The NBTE’s Director of Polytechnic Programmes and overall team leader, Arc. Ngbede Ogoh during plenary for the accreditation exercise had opined that the mission of NBTE is to make the Institution better and to also ensure that the students go through the required training in order to fit effectively into the emerging labour market.

Arc. Ogoh who stated that it was important to put in place some safety measures, equipment/facilities to maintain the Infrastructures on ground and to avoid unnecessary hitch therefore appealed to the Management of the Polytechnic to make their work easier by taking proper note of any corrections and making necessary adjustments where necessary in order not to make the purpose of the Accreditation visitation be in vain.

Also in his remarks at the brief ceremony, the Director, NBTE zonal office (Southwest Zone) Mr. Ayo Aroge admonished on the need to recognize skills irrespective of how it was acquired, noting that skills, training and acquisition should not be limited to the four walls of the Institution.

Rector of The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Engr. (Dr) Temitope John Alake while appreciating the Board for ensuring proper documentation of the exercise, stated that the importance of practical learning should not be underplayed in current dispensation of the economy.

Dr. Alake noted that “the NBTE is a regulatory body that no Higher Institution of technical learning can do without, he further advocated for improved funding for the Board to enable it deliver effectively and efficiently on its mandate.

The Rector appreciated the Executive Secretary and other officials for making efforts at ensuring that the peculiar needs for manpower/Infrastructure and facility improvement are put in place for proper accreditation of the programmes in order to promote excellence in Research, Teaching and Learning process.

Dr. Alake maintained that he was determined to improve on the services of the Polytechnic by ensuring sanity in the quality of graduates that are being enhanced with necessary skills and technological knowhow.
