Air Peace has confirmed that one of its aircraft operating Flight P47190 from Lagos to Port Harcourt veered slightly off the runway while landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday morning.
In a statement issued by the airline’s spokesperson, Mr. Osifo-Whiskey Efe, the aircraft landed safely before experiencing what was described as a “runway excursion.”
“The aircraft veered slightly off the runway without any damage. All passengers disembarked safely and calmly. No injuries were recorded,” the statement said.
The airline further assured the public of its continued commitment to safety in all aspects of its operations.
“We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations,” the statement concluded.
This incident comes barely two months after an Air Peace aircraft encountered an unexpected situation at the Asaba International Airport on May 11. The aircraft, while taxiing on the runway, collided with a large antelope.
The impact led to flight disruptions, as the aircraft had to remain on the ground.
Reacting to the May incident, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr. Michael Achimugu, stated that while such occurrences are largely unforeseen, they do not excuse operators from fulfilling their obligations to passengers.
The NCAA has yet to issue a formal statement on Sunday’s runway incident.
