The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has foiled an early morning terrorist attack on troops in Rann, Borno State.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.
He said the operation was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) following credible intelligence about the planned assault.
According to the statement, the troops were alerted immediately while the NAF deployed its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms to monitor the area.
“Clusters of terrorists were seen attempting to flee the area. Precision air strikes were then launched, neutralising several of them and halting the attack,” the statement said.
The Air Force added that its prompt response helped restore calm to the area and reinforced its commitment to supporting ground forces and eliminating insurgent threats.
Rann, a border community close to Cameroon, has suffered repeated attacks by insurgents. Authorities say Friday’s operation is a significant boost to ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East.
