Again, Governor Resigns from PDP, Cabinet Follows Suit

His Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, announced the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday, confirming that Diri’s resignation was followed by that of the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP members in the state legislature.

According to the post, the announcement was made during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Yenagoa, where it was also gathered that all members of the State Executive Council resigned alongside the governor.

The move comes amid widespread rumours that the Bayelsa governor was preparing to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), although Alabrah did not confirm Diri’s next political destination.

When contacted, Alabrah declined to provide further details, saying, “I cannot talk now.”

Diri, who was elected on the platform of the PDP in 2020, has been a prominent figure in the party and currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

The latest development is expected to trigger major political realignments in Bayelsa State ahead of the next general elections.
