A Member representing Ado Constituency I in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Ayodeji Adegbite, has moved a motion urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review and increase State constituencies in Ekiti State in line with constitutional provisions.
The motion is particularly focused on the growing imbalance in representation, especially in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, which has witnessed significant population growth over the years. Despite this expansion, Ado-Ekiti still operates with only two constituencies and ward structures that no longer reflect current realities.

The motion received unanimous support from Honourable Members of the House and was duly adopted. Following this, the Speaker constituted a 5-member Ad-hoc Committee to carry out further legislative scrutiny and report back to the House.
Hon. Adegbite emphasized the urgent need for: A review of constituency structures across the State, Consideration for additional constituencies in Ado-Ekiti and Ijero, Creation of more wards to improve, and grassroots participation and access
This initiative is aimed at ensuring fair representation, strengthening democracy, and aligning Ekiti State with constitutional requirements.
