Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing, has lashed out at online trolls who frequently mock her over marriage and motherhood, stressing that her fame does not make her less human.
In a video posted on Instagram, the outspoken actress questioned why some social media users feel entitled to attack her private life simply because she is in the public eye.
“Is it okay for someone to come at you unprovoked? Marriage-shame you, child-shame you, just like that because you think I’m a celebrity? I’ve always said this – I’m not a celebrity. I’ve got blood running through my veins. I am human just like you,” she said.
Blessing, who has 2.6 million Instagram followers, noted that social media presence does not define her life, adding that her account could be deactivated at any moment.
“The fact that I have 2.6 million followers does not make me a demigod. Mark can decide to take the page at any time. Will my life stop? Absolutely not,” she added.
The actress explained that while trolls often expect her to remain silent, she prefers responding in equal measure.
“My darling, it is aura for aura. The only thing that keeps me sane is when I give you back what you dished out to me. Nobody sees what they say to you; they only see your reaction,” she said.
To emphasise her point, Nkechi shared a message from a troll who mocked her as “a useless person jumping from one man to another” and ridiculed her for not being married.
According to her, she responded in the same tone:
“You give me, I give you, then everybody go dey okay. You now start crying because of just one line, but you wrote plenty before. Like I said, I’m not a celebrity. You bring rubbish to me, I give you rubbish back.”
