Popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed regret over her earlier call for the exhumation of late Nigerian singer Mohbad during the investigation into his controversial death.
Speaking on the Talk to B Podcast, the actress admitted she would have acted differently had she anticipated the prolonged and inconclusive nature of the case.
“I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way,” Iyabo said. “I just wanted an autopsy to uncover the cause of his death.” She lamented that the investigation became mired in speculation, including DNA theories, detracting from her original pursuit of justice and clarity.
Mohbad’s Tragic Passing
Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, died suddenly on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, leaving fans and the entertainment industry in shock. His burial, conducted less than two days after his death, sparked public outrage, with many demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing.
His father, Joseph Aloba, later explained that the quick burial was influenced by cultural beliefs and the limited property owned by the singer.
Investigation and Controversy
Subsequent investigations revealed that Mohbad’s death was linked to injections administered by a quack nurse, which caused adverse reactions. However, despite the exhumation of his body for forensic analysis, the case has seen little progress, and the late singer has not been re-buried nearly two years after his death.
The lack of resolution has fueled public frustration, with many questioning the effectiveness of the investigation and its impact on achieving justice for Mohbad.
