Popular Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi has shared heartfelt reflections on the ordeals faced by the late comedy legend Alhaji Babatunde Omidina, also known as Baba Suwe.
In a video posted on social media, Fabiyi highlighted the human rights abuses and injustices Baba Suwe endured during his lifetime, offering insights into the lessons he learned from the actor’s struggles.
Fabiyi described Baba Suwe as a victim of profound injustice, urging his audience to value independence and resilience in the face of life’s uncertainties.
He captioned the video:
“Late Alhaji Babatunde Omidina a.k.a Baba Suwe was a victim of Human Rights Abuse and injustice.
He said, “I have too many lessons to learn from his life and saga. When you are alive, reigning without problems or sickness, don’t ever assume that your colleagues or friends love you. Until you face a career or life-threatening problem, don’t count your friends.
“It is often better to walk alone. Keep relationships but prepare yourself for the lonely road. It is not pride; you become stronger that way. Nobody is immune to death. Continue to rest in peace, Boss and Father in the industry. We miss you.”
In the video, Fabiyi, speaking in Yoruba, recounted an emotional meeting with Baba Suwe. The late actor reportedly broke into tears while sharing his experiences, expressing that the allegations against him felt like a targeted attack based on the assumption that he lacked the means to defend himself.
Fabiyi recalled: “When the issue first happened, I visited him as my boss. While narrating his ordeal, he broke into tears, saying it wasn’t even about money but the fact that he felt they did it because they thought he couldn’t defend himself. Even a simple ‘sorry’ would have comforted him during his sickness.”
During their conversation, Fabiyi revealed he contacted his lawyer to explore legal options to help Baba Suwe seek justice.
Baba Suwe, renowned for his unique comic style in Nollywood, passed away on November 22, 2021, leaving a legacy that continues to resonate within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
