Abuja Court Orders Man’s Arrest For Defrauding Job Seeker

By Jerry Olomolaye

A Gwagwalada Upper Area Court, FCT, has issued a bench warrant authorising the arrest of a man, Yakubu Salihu for allegedly defrauding a job seeker of N500,000.

The police charged Salihu, who resides in Gwagwalada, Abuja with criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating.

The Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, issued the warrant, following an oral application by the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abdullahi Tanko.

Tanko had asked the court to revoke the bail of the defendant for his alleged refusal to appear to defend the charge against him knowing fully well of the adjourned date.

The Judge ruled, “I revoke the bail of the defendant for being absent without communicating to the court, in spite of being in court at the last adjourned date and is fully aware of today’s date.

“Hence, bench warrant of arrest is issued against him and the surety also to be serve a notice while the bail bond entered should not be forfeited.”

He adjourned the matter until July 6 for hearing.

Earlier, Tanko had told the court that the defendant sometimes in Sept. 2, 2021 conspired with Rabiu Barau, now at large and collected the sum of N500,000 from Mr Nasiru Abdullamid.

He said the defendant was to secure an Immigration job for Abdulhamid, but failed, while efforts to get the job or money proved abortive.

He said that during the cause of investigations, the sum of N360,000 was recovered from the defendant.

The offence, he said, contravene provisions of Sections 97, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
