Governor’s Aide Dies on Easter Monday; Husband in Protective Custody

She reportedly passed away in the early hours of Easter Monday after what sources described as a brief illness. However, the exact cause of her death remains unclear as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, said the late Shimite was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was rushed to.

Edafe also disclosed that her husband, who reported the incident to the police, has been taken into protective custody following threats allegedly made against him by members of the deceased’s family.

“He was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. Based on this, we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety,” Edafe stated.

However, the PPRO added that the family of the deceased later lodged a formal complaint, expressing suspicion that the husband may have had a hand in her death.

“We are investigating the matter. In cases like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or otherwise,” he added.

The police say more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
