Fresh momentum has been injected into the nation’s paramilitary structure as the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board approved the promotion of 24,202 senior officers across the four agencies under its supervision.
Announcing the development on Monday in Abuja, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Board, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by the Board’s Secretary, Abdulmalik Jubril, said the officers formed the second batch of senior personnel elevated in 2025.

Across the services, the Nigerian Correctional Service led the list with 11,426 promoted officers, followed by the Nigeria Immigration Service with 4,336, the Federal Fire Service with 2,581, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps with 5,859 newly elevated personnel.
Giving insight into the process, the minister explained that the promotions were guided by parameters such as national spread, service records, ratification, performance evaluation and available vacancies.
He said the exercise was designed to boost morale and enhance efficiency across the agencies, stressing that the administration was committed to improving welfare to strengthen the national response to insecurity.
Tunji-Ojo recalled that promotions had stagnated for years, but noted that renewed attention to personnel motivation had begun to yield positive results within the Ministry of Interior.
In 2024, the Board had promoted 20,867 senior officers in a similar exercise aimed at addressing career stagnation and improving staff welfare across all paramilitary formations under the ministry.
