As part of the activities marking the first anniversary of the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in office, the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has donated gift items worth several thousands of naira to children with special needs at the Onaopemipo Home for Children and Youths living with Disabilities in Ado – Ekiti.
Presenting the items to the children at a ceremony held at Onaopemipo Children’s Home in Ado-Ekiti, the Executive Chairman of Ekiti SUBEB, Prof. Femi Akinwumi encouraged the children to focus on becoming great in future, assuring them that there is ability in disability.
He commended the management of the Centre for setting up the facility and taking good care of the children
The SUBEB Boss said the Board would continue to partner with individuals, community groups, donor agencies and non governmental organizations to develop special education in the State.
He pledged that SUBEB would support the center with more facilities in order to make the place more conducive for the children as well as to make them have a feeling of sense of belonging in the society.
Prof. Akinwumi who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Board, Mr. Afolabi Adebiyi and some management staff, explained that the gesture was in tandem with the policy of Governor Oyebanji to always mark every milestone attained by his administration by making donations to the less privileged.
He urged the management of the Children’s Home to make judicious use of the donated materials which include : food items , toiletries, disinfectants, diapers and other consumables.
Responding, the propietor of the center, Mr. Olumide Ojo expressed appreciation to the SUBEB management for the gesture.
He prayed for the success of the Governor in his quest to develop the state and put smiles on the faces of the masses.
Appealing for assistance from philanthropists and other well meaning people in the state to help cater for the children, Mr Ojo highlighted the challenges facing the center to include inadequate transportation and accommodation facilities.
