The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) says it is training 81 youths under its Community Based Training Scheme (CBTS) in various skill vocations in Jigawa State.
NDE’s Director-General (DG), Alhaji Abubakar Nuhu-Fikpo, said this during the inauguration of the Directorate’s three-month training exercise today in Dutse.
Nuhu-Fikpo said the CBTS would be conducted under the agency’s Vocational Skills Development programme to fight poverty and joblessness.
Nuhu-Fikpo, represented by Alhaji Hadi Mammani, the State Coordinator of the Directorate, listed GSM repairs, electrical work, printing, fashion/design, beads making and computer operation as some skills beneficiaries would be trained on.
“The total participants to be involved in this three months training are 81 participants drawn from across the 27 local government areas of the state.
“Each participant will receive a stipend of N5,000 per month to argument their transport fare to the place of the training.
“The skills to be learnt include the following; GSM repairs, electric work, printing, fashion design, beads arrangement, computer operation and so on,” he said.
He noted that while the Federal Government through the NDE was striving to train the citizens in employment generation and wealth creation, the beneficiaries must also pay attention to get the best.
According to him, the agency was created in 1986 and one of its mandates is to design and implement programmes in order to combat mass unemployment in the country.
“Unemployment is predisposed to prostitution, thuggery, theft and other vices which constitute threat to the nation and society in general.
“ To prevent all these devastating occurrences, NDE was born and have been deploying several strategies to combat this menace of unemployment,” he added.
Nuhu-Fikpo, urged the beneficiaries to cooperate with the facilitators in order to equip them with the desired skills.
He also advised the state government to put more effort in job creation among teeming unemployed youths and women in the state.
According to him, the gesture will create harmony within the state and the nation at large.
Rufai Amadu and Sadiya Aliyu, beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, commended the NDE for the gesture and assured they would use the knowledge acquired to earn a living.
