The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered a total of 2,658 illegal admissions carried out by 17 universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education during the 2024/2025 academic session.
Fresh data released by the board in Abuja on Friday showed that the affected institutions conducted admissions outside the official Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), which JAMB uses to regulate entry into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
According to the breakdown, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, topped the list with 1,847 cases, followed by Osun State University with 492. Others include Abubakar Tafari Ali Polytechnic (148), Federal College of Animal and Health Production (66), University of Calabar (28), College of Education, Oro (12), Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (12), Redeemer’s University (five), Pan-Atlantic University (five), Nigerian Army College of Education (two), Kwara State Polytechnic (one), and Best Solution Polytechnic (one).
JAMB noted that the admissions were conducted without due clearance through CAPS, which automatically renders them illegal and invalid under existing regulations.
The board further reminded students and institutions that only admissions processed and approved through CAPS are recognised for national documentation, including the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Students who accept admissions not approved by JAMB risk being barred from participating in the NYSC scheme after graduation.
Meanwhile, the 2025/2026 admission exercise for public universities officially ended on Friday, marking the closure of the current cycle of tertiary admissions nationwide.
