COUP: Army Redeploys 67 Generals in Major Shake-up [Full List]

The large-scale posting, announced on Thursday in Abuja, is aimed at strengthening leadership, improving operational efficiency and enhancing ongoing military operations nationwide.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, said in a statement that the postings take immediate effect.

She said the exercise followed the recent decoration of the new service chiefs by President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

According to Anele, Maj.-Gen. Bamidele Alabi has been appointed Chief of Policy and Plans at the Army Headquarters, while Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdulsalam moves to the Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Operations.

Maj.-Gen. Peter Mala has been named Commander, Training and Doctrine Command.

Others affected include Maj.-Gen. Samson Jiya, who moves from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre to the Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Accounts and Budget, and Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, who becomes Chief of Operations (Army).

Also redeployed are Maj.-Gen. Isa Abdullahi, now Chief of Administration (Army); Maj.-Gen. Musa Etsu-Ndagi, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs; and Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Haruna, Commander, Nigerian Army Training Centre, Kontagora.

Maj.-Gen. Philip Ilodibia was posted to the Defence Space Administration as Chief of Defence Space Operations.

In other appointments, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut becomes Corps Commander, Infantry; Maj.-Gen. Umar Abubakar, Commander, Armour Corps; and Maj.-Gen. John Adeyemo, Corps Commander, Artillery.

Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Abdullahi is the new Corps Commander, Signals; Maj.-Gen. Taofik Sidick, Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army); Maj.-Gen. Abdullahi Ibrahim, Corps Commander, Ordnance; Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka Adereti, Corps Commander, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers; and Maj.-Gen. Nansak Shagaya, Corps Commander, Supply and Transport.

For training institutions, Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye is appointed Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy; Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Mustapha, Commandant, Nigerian Army Signal School; Maj.-Gen. Adamu Hassan, Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Artillery; and Brig.-Gen. John Bulus, Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Finance and Accounts.

New field commanders include Maj.-Gen. Saidu Audu, Force Commander, Multi-National Joint Task Force, N’Djamena; Maj.-Gen. Warrah Idris, Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA; and Maj.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander, Operation UDO KA, South East.

Lt.-Gen. Shaibu also appointed Maj.-Gen. Olatokumbo Bello as Director, Defence Media Operations, and Brig.-Gen. Samaila Uba as Director, Defence Information.

The COAS charged the officers to discharge their duties with professionalism and uphold the values of loyalty, integrity and selfless service.

Earlier on Thursday, President Tinubu had charged the newly appointed service chiefs to deliver decisive victories against terrorism, banditry and other security threats.

The President, who decorated the military heads at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, urged them to produce results and restore lasting peace to the country.

He assured them of the Federal Government’s support and resources to enable the armed forces to succeed in their assignments.

Responding on behalf of the service chiefs, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, pledged to make Nigeria safer and called on citizens to support the military in combating insecurity.
