Cleric Cautions Against Religious Intolerance In Ilorin

By Charles Ayodele

The President of Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Israel Akanji, has appealed to the Traditionalists and  Muslims in Ilorin, Kwara State to live in tolerance of one another.

The Cleric made the appeal while speaking with journalists  at Igede-Ekiti, Ekiti State over the weekend.

According to the man of God, “we have been created in such a way that there’s always a variety amongst us. We speak different languages but we are all one common humanity. We may believe differently but we are all creatures of the Almighty God and we should respect that connection that God has connected all of us together by being the Creator of all, the Sustainer of all and to Whom everyone of us looks unto.

Dr. Akanji said we may look towards God in different ways, “that doesn’t mean one should wipe out another. We can preach our religion but then, let’s not enforce it on anybody. The Christian faith, you are supposed to love everybody. Not only Christians. Even non Christians, Muslims, Traditional Religionists, all are to be loved and that’s the counsel I will give to the people of Ilorin, to live in peace with one another.

“We have heard of too much of uproar in Ilorin in recent times. It used not to be so in the past. Ilorin was a very peaceful town and we want that peaceful nature to return. We plead with all the people in Ilorin to tolerate and love one another, and accept one another. Reverend Akanji concluded.
