The Vice-Chancellor, Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State (BOUESTI) , Professor Victor Adeoluwa, has advised students of the Institution to take their studies very serious to achieve academic excellence as he said, the University focuses on skills acquisition and entrepreneurial that can make them self-reliant when they graduate.

The VC gave the advice in his message to the matriculated students of the Institution for 2021/2022 academic session which took place at the University campus in Ikere-Ekiti.

“They should focus on the acquisition of those skills so that at the end of the day , it’s going to be an advantage for them in the labour market. We are not expecting them to graduate and begin to look for jobs except they so desire.

“But they would be able to be employers of labour when they graduate. That’s our focus and we are trying to do that for them in four years and by the grace of God, in four years, they would be able to know that they have acquired something very good”. Adeolu said.

Speaking on the upgrading of the Institution, the university boss explained that the Institution was once a College of Education that was upgraded to a University, adding that it was upgraded because the College was dying.

According to the Vice Chancellor, “today we matriculated about two thousand students. The NCE students on campus before the College was upgraded to a University were not up to two thousand even from one hundred level to three hundred level”.

In his message to the Federal government regarding the ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Victor Adeolu, urged the federal government to dialogue with ASUU and implement agreements that are made with unions not only ASUU but unions as he said.

“Government should honour and recognise the agreement willingly made with the Trade Union in the country, so that our institutions can be what we desire them to be”.

The SUG President of BOUESTI, Comrade Tokimi Olamilekan, also advised the students to be of good conduct to the school authority as he urged them to always consult before taking any action.

“I have been elected as their president. If there is anything they have in mind that they are agitating on, they should consult me . My door is always open for them. Not by fight and not by protest” , said the president.
