The Ekiti State Environmental Protection and Watershed Management Agency (EKSEPWAMA) has embarked on an extensive dredging exercise across key flood-prone areas of Ado-Ekiti.

The General Manager of the agency, Mr. Kayode Adunmo, said the intervention is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property from the menace of flooding, especially as the rainy season peaks.
According to him, dredging works are currently ongoing at the canal behind the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, GRA 3rd Extension, NTA area, Amala Spot, Satellite Polytechnic axis, and Abekoko. Similar activities are also being carried out at the Olujoda canal beside Winners Chapel in Moferere.
Mr. Adunmo explained that the exercise was in response to the recurring cases of flooding in the identified areas, adding that the state government, through EKSEPWAMA, is committed to ensuring residents live in a safe and hygienic environment.

He called on residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse into waterways, stressing that the government alone cannot achieve a flood-free state without the cooperation of the people.
“The dredging is not only to allow free flow of water but also to prevent flooding that often causes damage to roads, homes, and business premises. We appeal to residents to take ownership of the environment and stop acts that block canals,” Adunmo said.
The EKSEPWAMA boss assured that similar interventions would be extended to other parts of the state identified as flood-prone.
