The new Commandant of Amotekun Corps in Ekiti State, Brigadier-General Ibukun Olu Adewa (rtd) has promised to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, Brigadier-General Joe Komolafe (rtd).
The Commandant made the promise while taking over from the former Commandant, Komolafe, who formally handed over to him today at the Corps Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital.
In his word, “today is a memorable day in the history of our dear State. It is memorable in the sense that, Amotekun has done a great job and today, there is a change of baton.
“With God on our side, we will build on what our pioneer Commandant has done and with the cooperation of all, we could forge ahead and ensure that we record new successes. Said Adewa.
However, the Commandant urged the newsmen to always verify from him any information received before getting it published in order not to be projecting the Corps in a bad light.
“It’s not always good to be reporting our negative part. Most of the countries in the world have their worse part. I know you people have been doing excellently well, please help us. If you have the information and you don’t give it to us, there’s nothing we can do.
“I am not a miracle performer like Jesus Christ. But with you on our side, we will succeed and on our part, we will try as much as possible to make you happy. We need your support”. The Commandant appealled.
Speaking on the challenges faced while in the office, the immediate past Commandant, Joe Komolafe, said being a new organisation without any structure on ground when he came on board, that there were challenges which according to him were teething ones that are peculiar to every new organisation.
“But God being on our side, and with the support of the people and government of Ekiti State, I am graciously grateful to the former Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, who brought me on board. I thank him immensely.
“And the current Governor, I am most sincerely grateful to him. He did much for me to get to this level. There’s no society without challenges. I think I am happy because I am handling over to a competent individual”.
The former Commandant therefore urged the people of the State in general to give the new Commandant the same cooperation he enjoyed from them throughout his tenure in office.
According to him, “it is not about me. It is not about him. It is about Ekiti State. It is about the security of Ekiti State and Nigeria.
“I have left for good and I am happy by it. This is because I have handed over to a competent hand”. Said Komolafe.
