A former President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Dr Samuel Nzekwe, has commended President Bola Tinubu for palliative measures put in place to cushion the effects of subsidy removal.

Nzekwe gave the commendation in an interview with our correspondent in Ota, Ogun State.

President Bola Tinubu had on Monday, addressed the nation on Nigeria’s economic challenges.

The President said that over N1 trillion has been saved in the last two months, while N125 billion and N75 billion earmarked for SMEs and manufacturing sector respectively.

“I applauded the courage of Mr President for speaking to Nigerians and also putting palliative measures in place to cushion the numerous effects of subsidy removal,”he said.

Nzekwe said that Nigerians have not seen much of past administrations in the country addressing its major issues and in time of crisis.

The ex-ANAN president noted that the federal government could have first put the Palliative in place before removing the fuel subsidy, as it would take longer time before Nigerians could feel positive effects of the palliative put in place by government.

He called on the federal government to put in place a good data base so that the implementation would be seamless.

“If the federal government made good policies and they are not able to effectively implement such, it becomes bad policies,” Nzekwe.

He emphasised the need for federal government to provide critical Infrastructure so that the N215 billion to energise the SMEs and manufacturing sector would achieve the purposes and goals targeted in the economy.

He lauded the decision of the federal government to purchase buses to cushion the subsidy removal in order to create job opportunities for the youths.

The ex-ANAN president stressed the need to redouble efforts toward addressing security challenges the palliative measures have created with a view to achieve food sufficiency in the country.

He advised the federal government to honour without further delay agreement signed with unions to prevent unnecessary conflict.
