My Husband Maltreats Me For Inability To Have Male Child — Wife Alleges

A businesswoman, Eucharia Uzoma, has dragged her husband Obi Uzoma, to Nyanya Customary Court, Abuja for allegedly maltreating her over her inability to have a male child.

The petitioner said this in a divorce petition filed before the court.

“After I gave birth to our first child, my husband told me not to deliver another female child. That it must be a boy. It was not up to two years after, I got pregnant again and unfortunately for me, i gave birth to another baby girl.

“That was the beginning of problems in my marriage. My husband beat me to the extent that I pasted out and was admitted for several days in the hospital,”She told the court.

The plaintiff further told the court that her husband has not been providing for her and their two children. 

“He even refused to enroll them in school. I have been the one caring for them, feeding, clothing and medicals.”

She alleged that her husband has several concubines and has rented apartment for them in different locations.

The respondent, Mr Obi Uzoma, an auto mechanic, who was present in court, denied all the allegations.

The Presiding Judge, Shitta Abdullahi adjourned the matter until Aug. 8 for defense.
