Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Debbie Shokoya, has opened up about losing close friends who accused her husband of hypnotising her, saying their absence has turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Speaking on Iriri Podcast hosted by Bimpe Akintunde, Shokoya recounted how people she once trusted spread rumours that her husband used “jazz” on her. She said the betrayal was painful but has since come to see it as divine protection.
“Those I called my people… the same ones who said I was hypnotised by my husband—were my friends. People I trusted. But today, I realise I have no one left. And you know what? I surrender,” she said.
The actress explained that she now finds strength in her husband, daughter, family, and in-laws, adding that God removed certain people from her life to prevent setbacks.
“Looking back now, I see clearly—God took those people out of my life for a reason. If they were still here, maybe my life wouldn’t have meaning. Maybe they would’ve caused setbacks… maybe they would’ve sent me packing from my marriage. But God stepped in and cleared the path. And I’m thankful,” she said.
Shokoya further revealed that she has surrendered her life to God’s will this year, trusting Him completely for direction.
