Police Arraigns Two Men Over Alleged Stealing In Lagos

The Police in Lagos on Thursday, arraigned two men in Badagry Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of N34,350 from dead victims of an accident along Lagos-Badagry expressway.

The defendants- Babatunde Olatunji, 37; and Tunde Afolabi, 41; whose residential addresses are unknown, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 9, at about 11.00.a.m, at Muhammadu Buhari Bus Stop, along Lagos-Badagry expressway, Age-Mowo, Lagos.

Adeosun said the defendants allegedly conspired among themselves to steal from dead victims of road accident along the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

He said the defendants stole N34,350 from victims of road accident that claimed the life of 18 passengers along Lagos-Badagry expressway.

“They were arrested by the people at the scene of the accident and handed over to Police for prosecution.

The offences contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr T A Popoola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Popoola said the sureties should be a responsible and gainfully employed in a reputable company or government establishment citizen residing in Lagosand must have three years tax address verification.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 21, for mention.
