People Need Orientation On Positive Disposition To Tax Payment – EKIRS Boss, Olatona Says

The Chairman made the appeal on Monday while interacting with journalists in his office in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital.

Olatona, who explained that part of the challenges still confronting EKIRS is people’s inability to recognize the laws guiding taxation which according to him, allows whoever feels has been overcharged to object within 30 days on receiving the assessment and object by writing in any dialect to the Chairman, Ekiti  Internal Revenue Service.

“When it comes to my office, my responsibility is to ask our tax auditors who may not even be the one that has given you the assessment to evaluate what you have objected, your objection letter to say okay, this is the basis of objection, this is the proof that I don’t earn up to this. Or in some cases, maybe we sent a letter to you to demand for a withholding tax on rent, you could also write us to tell the true position of things. Once we evaluate it and we are able to confirm the correctness of such claims, then we drop it.

“It is frustrating when they don’t know and they pretend as if they knew’. Said he.

Adding that all they need is just the orientation of having positive disposition towards EKIRS operations saying they can always write objection letter instead of staging unnecessary protest which has always been the case.
