Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Mohbad, has explained why he continues to call for a DNA test on his grandson, Liam.
Aloba said his demand is not out of malice but a bid to secure the child’s future and protect him from ridicule or suspicion.
“I want to wash Liam clean of any accusation or bullying from people in the future,” he said. “Nobody knows the position he will attain in life tomorrow. It is better to settle this issue once and for all so that he can grow up without people questioning his identity.”
The grieving father added that his greatest joy would be for the test to confirm Liam as Mohbad’s son, saying such an outcome would mean his late son left behind a true heir.
“I will be extremely happy if the DNA test reveals he is Mohbad’s son. It means my son left a grandchild for me, something that would be a source of joy and comfort in my old age,” he said.
Aloba stressed that his demand should not be misinterpreted as distrust but seen as a way of preserving dignity and clarity. He argued that sensitive issues should be confronted directly rather than left to fester as rumours.
Quoting a Yoruba proverb, he said: “Nkan eni o ki n di meji ki inu o bini” — meaning nobody should be angry when fortune brings a double blessing. He insisted that seeking the truth would bring peace to all parties.
He also maintained that the matter goes beyond emotions, saying it touches on Mohbad’s legacy and the child’s identity.
“Liam deserves to live free from any shadow of doubt,” he concluded.
