Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday evening visited the Ibadan headquarters of Fresh FM following a fire outbreak that affected parts of the popular radio station.
The governor, who arrived around 7:30 p.m., sympathised with the Chairman of the station, Dr. Yinka Ayefele, and members of the management team.
Makinde described the incident as unfortunate, noting that it underscored the need to strengthen emergency and fire response in Oyo State.
“What has happened here is a wake-up call for us as far as response time is concerned. If our fire agency had been better equipped, the damage would not have been this much,” the governor said.
He disclosed plans to meet with the leadership of the Oyo State Fire Service to restructure and improve its efficiency.
The governor, while thanking God that no life was lost, promised that the state government would support Fresh FM to return on air quickly.
“In terms of moving forward, myself and the state government will give them support. Fresh FM plays a vital role in informing our people and we won’t allow the station to remain closed for long,” he assured.
In his response, Dr. Ayefele expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for the prompt visit, describing it as a show of genuine leadership.
He also appreciated fans of the station, first responders, and supporters within and outside the country, urging them to join hands with him in rebuilding Fresh FM.
Facilities affected by the fire include the Fresh FM Studio, Blast FM Studio, Newsroom, Transmitter Room, Blast FM General Manager’s Office, and Fresh FM Assistant GM’s Office.
